This month's issue has a few G-bodies! I even noticed some G-body specific parts advertising. Amazing. Did they run out of red Camaros? But the article about swapping a Ford 8.8 rear into a G-body I think can be dismissed as just silly. Worse, they claimed that "For years, the supply of G-body 8.5-inch rearends seemed endless,"!?! I want some of what they've been smoking!

I can find a 8.8 a lot easier than a GM rearend... I had to go that route on my Plymouth Duster because Mopar axles are hard to find as well.

I agree about the article being silly. I was hoping to find some info that I hadn't come across yet. No dice. Going to be doing this swap in a couple weeks, and am glad to know that I've got every resource I could need in this forum.

If you total up all the upgrades they recommend to the 8.8, you would be silly not to just pay the piper for a GM 8.5 that would fit perfectly. But isn't that the way with all these car mags? "Oh we sent it down the street to so-and-so for such-and-such- you should do the same".

Maybe they meant to say 7.5 instead of 8.5?

Nope. they basically said do this or keep grenading 7.5's. You have to understand the mentality. In SoCal they are tripping over mint '68 Camaros and '32 Fords. They boneyards are full of GM 12 bolt and Ford 9" rears. No one goes to the drive in unless they have a 10K paint job. It's called La La Land for a reason.
