car stalling

my 1987 olds cutlass ciera after driving about 40 or so miles will start bucking then stall You can start the engine but unless the car has set 5 to 10 minutes when you put it in gear it still stalls .had it to a garage they left it run most of the day then said "It didnt stall for us" I told them its the transmission not the engine, so need less to say I didnt get it fixed altho I had to pay them for letting my car run all day boy was I teed off Hope some one can help Want to use it for an antique but I wont be able to make any long runs

Sounds like the TCC (torque converter solenoid ) Is sticking It hangs up and causes Exactly what you are describing.
It wont cause a stall unless you are driving just letting it sit and run won't duplicate the problem. It's has a connector on the lower drivers side Front of the Transmission. Unplug the connector and go drive the car .It will not engage while unplugged ,It may also turn on the Check Engine light Don't worry about it the car will still drive fine but the TCC wont come on.
