I just purchased a brand new computer controled quadrajet. I have varified timing but engine back fire badly. this is an olds 307 in a 84 buick. Am i over looking something with the computer. new plugs wires cap rotor coil carb 02. all vacuum lines are hooked up. Acts like it is way out of time shoots fireball out of top of carb no matter how i turn distributor. will run rough but only at full throttle. Only other thing i can think of is timing chain jumping :blam:

Was the distributor itself ever pulled out? Did the engine have the backfiring issue before any/all of these parts were replaced? Computer won't cause this. It'd run without backfiring even if the computer was removed. It'd just run real rich and with static timing.

i gave up and put another dist and carb on still runs like sh*t but at least runs. anyone got a shotgun.

Damn you gave up real quick.....

You did disable the computer's timing when you adjusted the distributor? What carb is on it now? What did wet the timing at? I always got my 307's to run smooth with a decent Quadrajet and a stock or slightly modified HEI. You have a non swirl port 307, performance should acceptable, unless it is very tired.
