im in the process or restoring my 83 cutlass, and i want to completely black out the exterior, and theres chrome in my way. how would i go about properly getting rid of the chrome on the bottom of the front and rear bumbers, and also the window trim, headlight trim, etc.? is it possible to sand the bumpers? im looking to do this with good looking results. any ideas?

For my bezels and grilles, I wet sanded w/400 grit paper, used duplicolor self etching primer, and then dupli's satin black. came out really nice. check out my photos if you want to see. 😀

for the bumpers I'd get em' powdercoated, and all the trim you can hit with a red scotch brite pad, just make sure you scuff the trim real well, etch prime, then paint.

At least have the bumpers stripped, as paint will not stick to chrome, and it will eventually peel, looking awesome.

Have the bumpers stripped and painted, or you could have them powder coated.
