Not quite what made them famous IMO and there probably isn't too many fans of G-bodies being used in circle track races here I wouldn't think... But I can see why due to being the last of their breed...

Well all the Earnhardt, Geoff bodine, Richard petty, Harry Gant, Darryl Waltrip and even Mark Martin fans would disagree as back in the day they all drove G bodied cars

Ok, depends what kind of circle track cars you are talking about? I was referring more to the dirt track weekend racing of (once) stock G-body cars (which in turn destroys a lot of nice cars/parts). But like I say, I understand why guys use them because that is all that is left of a proper RWD full frame platform to build on. As we all know, the NASCAR versions of our g-bodies were anything but "stock" cars - although they were probably the last ones to actually resemble the street cars sold at the dealership 🙂

Well actually I sell allot of parts to guy's restoring G bodies. The cars I buy would all have ended up in the crusher so by virtue of turning them into race cars they live on. Add to that the bonus of being able to supply parts to enthusiasts such as yourself. And hey isn't it great that a former refugee from the scrap yard can experience the glory that is a checkered flag!

That is true that many of the parts do live on to help others (and they are crushed quickly at most yards these days), and don't get me wrong as I don't intend to slam the sport or anything - there really is nothing else to use. Every classic goes through it, and usually before they are actually considered a classic.

I don't drive but help with a dirt track car.

We run at Bull's Gap or Volunteer Speedway.

We are running a Malibu with a stock bore, flate top, double hump heads and center dump manifolds.

Hello fellow circle trackers.......................

Alot of famous drivers ran on Kingsport speedway here in my area while it was dirt. I just recently had the pleasure of looking at an old track book from the 70's.

By the way, alot of guys replace body panels with sheet metal and plastic nose and rear covers. Any good parts we put up and resale. All we need is the car hulled out, doors welded, windows removed along with most anything factory on the car except the frame, body, and suspension.
Dirt track raceing is awsome and a fun way to spend a saturday night. If your in the pits that is.

Not starting any fuss. I can understand that it's crazy some of the cars they use for the sport makes me sick sometimes but Drag raceing is the same, such a waste of a car.
we can run all season or longer on the same engine with just changeing the oil weekly or everyother week.

sorry to dig up an old thread 😳 but theres anotehr member here on the board doing the dirt circle
