Has anyone encountered the symptoms of "Code 45" in their computer controlled/factory emissions equipped car? I have a 1986 Buick Regal Limited, 307 Olds V8, 200-4R, 2.56 gears.

This past winter when we got 3 feet of snow (February) I could not really drive anywhere so I just started the car up and let it run everyday for 10-15 minutes just so the battery would stay charged, etc. When things got to the point that the roads were passable (a week later), the engine started acting funny.

At 50MPH the engine would start to cut out. I posted a question about that here previously and what ended up fixing it was a new ignition module. The "service engine soon" light stopped coming on as often.

Now something is up again, it seems to be engine sensor/transmission related. I don't think or would understanfd why the transmission would go funky in this car all things considered, but it does not want to hold 4th gear. It will go back into 3rd at 50MPH+ and you can hear the engine RPMs obviously go up. As soon as this all happens, the "service engine soon" light comes immediately on. It only really happens with moderate accelerator pressure/acceleration; light acceleration or slightly hard acceleration the transmission holds the gear. Also, while crusing at a constant high speed on a highway the same thing will happen after the transmission goes into 4th. It will stay in 4th for a couple minutes then drops to 3rd.

I jumped the CCC port and get Code 45, the same code that the car had all along.

Is there any sensor that would cause this condition? I does not make any sense that the transmission would just start acting up out of nowhere. Any help would be appreciated. There are various sensors on the car that are original, other than the oxygen sensor.

It sounds like the torque converter lock up. I don't think you are feeling the trans shift, I think it is the lock up engaging and disengaging. I don't think the computer on these cars really monitored anything on the trans besides that. One thing you can try is disconnecting the connector on the trans and see if it seems normal.
