Coil spring coils against each other?

Hey guys:

My wagon has what look like new rear coil springs...but there are also spring spacers installed above the coils as well. As a result the bottom 2 or 3 coils of each spring are resting directly on each other when the car sits on it's wheels. That can't be right.

This car has always had a weird ride...way too stiff, esp in the front which isn't even related to this.

Spring coils aren't supposed to stacked on each other like that, are they?
 
Sounds like you have the wrong springs in there.
I'd replace them with the correct ones asap, bad ride and potentially dangerous handling issues with bottomed out springs.

They could be a variable rate spring like Moog Cargo coil springs. They have three coils that are closer together.

Haha, yes they are cargo coils. I just happened to see a picture of them last night and realized what those were. Thanks for the advice.
