Been awhile since i have been on the forum, busy with life and what not. i am getting back up and going on the cars, my regal is almost ready for paint but i have been shifting focus onto my 442 because i am thinking about buying a GN to replace the regal but that’s another subject. My 442 that i have i picked up for 200 bucks as a rolling shell, when i got it i was told there was no title so i planned to pull then 200r4 and 8.5 rear out and use it in my regal. As i was pulling away the guy hollered at me and asked if i wanted the title, i was like hell yea kinda excited. The guy had never titled it in his name since the motor was out and it was a out of state car so it required a inspection which meant driving it to be checked out. anyways i knew 442s were pretty sweet, thought they were as common as turbo regals until i started researching them and realized how few were made, keep in mind i have spent most my years into regals and a little with cutlass’s but not enough to know about the production numbers. When i bought the car all i did was check the rear end to make sure it was a 8.5, it was but non posi, not a big deal, after i got it home i went out after work the next day and inspected the car, it had a new gm passenger side full quarter panel and the only rust on it was on the drivers rear wheel well. this was literally one of the most solid g bodies i had seen in some time, did i mention that this is a t top car and i have had a hard on for a t top g body since i was 14…. Anyways i decided that there was no option besides keep it and build it. my original intentions were to stick to my full custom ideas but make sure the 442 style stayed with the car. i planned to paint the car the factory style but with a custom burgundy and silver, i have a hurst olds scoop, 120mph speedo and i really want lightning rods. now i am debating colors, the car started out black but i want burgundy… am i doing a big no no not sticking with the original colors?? This is a rare car but at the same time i don’t have the stock motor so i cant have a numbers matching car, there are still allot of all original show quality cars out there and when i got the car it was literally a rolling shell, no motor, interior and missing tons of parts… so i am not sure if i should stick to the mild custom idea or go back to stock appearance with a built motor, upgraded suspension and 17” polished wheels like i have on it now… i guess the colors are what my real question is.

Paint it whatever you want, it's your car and you're not doing a concours restoration.
I'd just make sure you do it justice and at least put the 442 badging and stripes back on.

BTW, not sure if your aware but the 442 in your avatar had a GN driveline and was stolen years ago...

i did not know it had a gn drivetrain but i did know it had been stolen. its apperance is pretty much what i am going after and i do plan to restripe it just like original. i just dont want to paint it another color and have to hear people saying thats not a real 442, im already gonna get sh*t for being chevy powered lol. im leaning towards burgundy again, i am just not a huge fan of black not sure why. and one of the cars burned into mymind from growing up was a burgundy t top cutlass, it was one of the cars that hooked me on g bodies! gonna try to start a build thread soon, car is almost ready to run and drive.

I say do it the way you vision it as a kid.

Since its not numbers matching I would paint just like your SaWeet avatar. 😀
