column to floor shifter

I have an 82 Cutlass with a column shifter and th350. How hard is it to convert that to floor shifter? I am mainly concerned about the shift linkage

It's not difficult 🙂 You should just need the proper shifter cable & bracket to mount the cable to the trans, and for safety's sake you should wire the neutral safety switch through the floor shifter as well. There is a pin that holds the handle on the column (easily removed). Remove all the linkage from the column to the trans, and make sure the column is in park. You should be able to find a floor-shifter column as well (interchanges between all G-Bodies, '78 has a slightly different shaft that connects to the steering box, easily changed).

yeah do you need to do that. i just came up on a stock console and i wanna change over to floor shifter as well and i wasnt sure what will i need to change to get this mod to work

i did the swap recently, but need the linkage for the 2004r and im running a 4sp lightning rod setup. any ideas where i can buy a cable? or do i have to look for a used one?

You don't have to change the column, of course it would look cleaner.

ive seen some guys mount a tach where the old shifter went on the stock column. good idea if you dont want to change the column.

I hait how my 87 didn't come with a fac. tac. "Stupid" IMO
