on a 81 century in the lower kick panel. what is it for and do i need it

Emmissions maybe? That's where my 86 Salon's was.

It mainly controls the timing advance and the lockup on the transmission. Also runs a solonid (sp?) in the carb.

it runs part of the carb, controls the ignition timing, and the TCC solenoid. it's necessary, but you can get a vac advance distributor, non-computer q-jet, and a TCC control system and then get rid of the computer.
