Ive been trying to track down a coolant leak in my Cutlass and narrowed it down to the pictured part, but I dont know what the part is. I thought it was possibly something to do with the thermostat at first. This is on the passenger side of the engine, near the firewall. Its leaking coolant at the base.

Any ideas as to what this might be? Also, estimates on replacement cost would be swell too, but not necessary.

You're zoomed in mighty close there. I think I can count the molecules.

Looks like you're talking about the vacuum actuated heater control valve. It's a common part readily available in auto part stores. Some of them look way different than the OE valve but work fine. If you want a more stock appearing valve, find an AC Delco unit.

MeanBuicks, just found that out! Thanks for the information. Much appreciated.

Dang, I didnt realize the image was so big until I just looked at it. When I originally looked at it, the image must have been scaled back.

That was the correct part and replacing it and the hose connected to it seems to have solved the problem (although the aftermarket brand seems to be threaded a little differently and the nipple is turned toward the transmission fluid dipstick. Its seeping, currently, but I will tighten it down tomorrow and possibly re-route the hoses. But its not chugging coolant like it was prior to the replacement.

Thanks for the help, Greg. BTW, nice set of rides!

I have a 85 oldsmobile 5.0 307 delta 88 and its leaking water near the rear of my engine I've been under the hood and car it's dripping closer to the driver side of the car near the crossmember bar and drippin off the exhaust pipe in that same area I have no leads can't really tell where it's coming from but my water pump radiator and heater hoses don't seem to be leaking replaced all them. Anyone familiar can help ???
