coolant overflow tank

have a 2000 vortech motor in my malibu and am wondering if i need to run the overflow tank?
currently I have the over flow hose off my radiatior plugged off
bought the car like this

I would say yes you need it. With everything plugged, something gotta give way.

Having the overflow plugged is how you burst hoses and split open radiator tanks...

Used coolant resevoirs are a dime a dozen, and NOS ones are still available from several vendors.

I just leave the hose off mine and don't fill it all the way. though coolant tanks and some rubber hose are cheaper than dirt at a junkyard

I have the origanl one from my Regal sitting on a shelf in the garage. Let me know if you want to go with an original style resevoir

You need a recovery jar ,Coolant expands and contracts quite a bit. you could cause damage to other parts of the cooling system with the hose capped off . The jars aren't very expensive anyway.

THAT"S COOL. 8) Cause you have to empty the bottle to use it and that is fun.
