Has anyone ever cored a trunk/decklid? Is it possible to remove material from the decklid to reduce weight and still have it close? Does cutting out the structe and leaving the skin impair the function of the trunk? I just need it to stay closed at speed, I don't need it to be strong.

I dont think that removing the weight from this area will effect much? but anyhow if you do remove material, i would worry about warping... if you absolutely have to then I would suggest glassing the inside of it to retain some strength, not sure how much that weighs compared to stock, but prob would weight less if done right...

FWIW the 78-81 Montes had aluminum decklids. I didn't believe this until I saw one in the boneyard all rusted out - EXCEPT for the trunk~!
