Greetings! I hope everybody is having a fantastic Thanksgiving today 🙂

So I want to start off by saying I’m not a complete noob and I promise I did do quite a bit of research (dad helped lol) but I am still having some trouble figuring out a few things regarding the cowl tag of my ‘81 cutlass supreme.

So the top of the cowl tag reads “body by fisher” (not the best pic, I apologize) and i did include a photo of the tag with my best transcription! I know or at least am assuming my paint code is the light waxberry (?), same with interior. But what is the 45G at the beginning? And I do understand what my RPO codes are too. But the other thing I’m confused about is the code at the top, the 3AM47. From my research, and please correct me if I’m wrong, but it appears the ‘a’ in the code stands for a-body? Because I’ve noticed the later g bodies have a ‘3GM47’ code, or something to that extent. Not too sure. Any help or insight would be appreciated, she is my baby and I would love to learn more about her!

That 81 is the year, 10D should be the week it was built, 3AM37 says it an Olds A body (G for '82 up) Cutlass Supreme coupe, R is the plant it was built at, the numbers should be the sequence it was built, 45G for the Medium Waxberry interior code (45) with the letter being for the material/pattern of the fabric, 36L/36T L is for the Light Waxberry metalic paint (36L) & vinyl roof (36T) painted in lacquer (L), AM6 is your front seat RPO, C04 is for your padded vinyl top. Not sure what those last numbers are as some cars have something like that & some don't. If I got something wrong there are other members that will correct it.

Oh my gosh, thank you so much.

The ‘G’ code had my dad and I in a chokehold trying to figure it out, because everything we were finding kept coming up as a jadestone color, which is absolutely not what I have lol (not to mention what was it referring to?!?) . But your clarification is greatly appreciated and makes a lot of sense. The a-body code is quite curious though! I’ve never once thought it was anything but a g body, but whatevs. Thank you much for your time, friend.

These cars are actually 4th gen A bodies. From '78-'81 they were listed as except for the Grand Prix which has been an A body since '69 when it was switched from the B body but was called a G body the whole run from '69 to '81 in the Pontiac & Fisher manuals. In '82 when the FWD A's came around it was decided make all the RWD A's to G's. Also keep in mind in the aftermarket world nothing fits a Cutlass Supreme to include GM sourced Cutlass Supreme parts.
