My engine didn't have this problem till I replaced the +battery terminal end going into the distributor cap. The old plastic connector had broken on the original wire. I bought a new end/wire and spliced the it onto the original wire. I noticed that the new connector end wire was a smaller guage than the original but spliced the new and old wires together anyway. Since then I can't get this thing to even try to start. The starter will turn the engine over but I dont have power going to the spark plugs to make them fire. I removed the new connector end/wire and spliced back in the original. I removed the entirety of the new splice and then spliced back in the old connector end/wire. Still no luck. This seems to act like it's not grounded.

Is there a fuse or something I might be overlooking?

Sure you didn't plug into the tach terminal at the cap?
no the +b wire is a heavier guage than my tach wire. tach is always on the left and +b is always on the right. can something else though with the tach be the problem?

I disconnected the tach and got a new hold down (the hold down was to make sure distributer was grounded to the engine block). i got the same result.
