just wanted to see if anyone has experienced the same issue i have and if so what you did to correct it so that way i don't have to think and do much work haha.

i have a 1987 olds 442, my cruise worked fine up until now, everything works on it still just the resume cruise button doesn't do anything anymore, then about a week ago it started working for a day then it quit working again. any ideas whats doing on?

Do you have a tilt wheel?
The most common problem is a broken wire in the wiring that runs down the column. Operating the tilt wheel eventually flexes the wiring enough that it fatigues and breaks. Sometimes the insulation breaks as well, or often the conductor breaks and the insulation stays intact.

sometimes the button itself goes bad. The wand on those years were literally the same for like 20 years. The local auto parts store sell a replacement one. The chrome one is a little rarer and harder to find but you might want to start off by replacing the wand if all your connections are plugged in firm.

ok thanks for the input i guess ill have to tear into it to see whats going on, probably wand or wire issue either way the wand would get replaced if the wires bad... i will have to hunt for a chrome stick i have been kind looking around to see if i could find it but no luck. cruise works fine other than the fact it doesnt resume or speed up lol this is my first 442 with working cruise and i want to keep it that way.

i replaced my wand today and it fixed my problem, it was kind of a pain in the a** to snake that wire down the column. had to pull the steering wheel, removed the lock plate, turn signal cam, ignition, and the three bolts that hold the tilt column part on and twist it sideways then fish the wire down. had to loosen the two bolts that hold the column onto the dash too. now i got a nice new stick that the letters are not rubbed partially off of and my cruise works fully 8)

good job!

I dont think it had to be that hard though... the instructions in my manual say you can use a long piece of piano wire and snake it down the tube then attach the end of the wand wire and feed it down and pull on the piano wire to grab it a the other end. But.. now it works!

yeah, i should have probably looked up what was involved, i just started going to town on it lol about mid way through it i found out that there is a plastic cover on the column that can be slid down and exposes the dimmer rod and where the wire for the cruise would come down and it made things a lot easier  it sounds a lot harder than it really was
