Could the fact that a previous owner installed a digital dash cause my cruise control to be inop?
Any replies will be appreciated.
Thanks, Rodney

Does the car still have the “computer” etc.? If not you will need to ground a wire that is normally grounded by the ECU (or whatever it was called then).

Just a helpful reminder for everyone:

Put yourself in others' shoes and think about this. If you went to a service shop, and walked into their office area, and asked that same exact question of "Could the fact that a previous owner installed a digital dash cause my cruise control to be inop?" what do you think the first words out of their mouth is going to be? Same with an auto parts store. "I need a starter for my car."...do you really think the parts person will jump up, run to the storage shelf and magically pull out the starter for your very car based on that info?

When posting looking for help, first you have to help those potential helpers. Maybe, just maybe, start off with "I have an 86 Monte SS with cruise control and tilt wheel. P.O. put in a set of digital gages and the cruise hasn't worked since..." then go on to describe any and all troubleshooting you've already done so nobody wastes time going through all that just to hear them say "I've already done that."

Collaberation troubleshooting over the interwebs is tough. Even tougher when you make people pull teeth. I'm not a dentist, & I don't even play one on TV.

Be kind, set up the scene and then ask the question(s).

Otherwise you get this:

Maybe reference this thread first. It's a troubleshooting manual for the cruise controls (RPO K34). Find the parts that make up the cruise system and see what gives. If yours is an 84-up, it'll have K34 electronic cruise control.
