Hey guys, how many of you have a car with that cruisemaster unit that has a bunch of vacuum hoses coming out of it, and then it has the speedometer drive cable from the transmission going into it, and then a second cable coming out of it to the dashboard?

Have any of you deleted it? Is it as simple as buying a new speedometer cable that runs directly from the transmission to the dash, or is there some kind of gear reduction in the cruisemaster box thing that makes it more complicated? I don't think the cruise control even works and I never use it anyway so I'd like to get rid of as much hoses, wiring, and extra junk out of the car as possible to simplify working on it.

Not that it's a very complicated car, but I always subscribe to the theory that simpler is better.

No gear reduction. 1:1. Just get a new full length cable with out cruise.

Sweet, thank you that's exactly what I needed to know!

That's what I figured but really wasn't sure. I'm having serious issues with vacuum leaks making the car run like crap and and my speedometer stopped working. So rather than replace all those hoses I really just want to strip it all out. I'd like to get rid of everything that runs off vacuum that I can until I'm down to just the brakes, and heater/air conditioning flapper door. Also plan to tear out the computer and CCC Rochester for a vacuum secondary Holley or a regular old fashioned Q-Jet.

Just an update. I deleted pretty much everything vacuum from under the hood today like I said I was going to. Turns out the PCV valve doesn't fit in the valve cover tight and was a massive leak as well as the big fat like 3/8ths hose from the charcoal canister had a big hole in it. Explains why the car was running so bad.

She's still a dog but now that all the lines have been replaced or removed and the ports capped off... She runs way smoother and doesn't stall anymore. The idle dropped way down by like 400 RPM and idles so smooth you can barely feel it running now.

I ordered a new non cruise control cable and will pull out the cruisemaster thing when I get it but there's no more lines running to it, so that makes things easier.
