Where art thou located? I responded to your post about the GP rear ends too. If your '83 SS still has the stock ratio you have a 3.42.....which isn't a slouch for a street car.

stay away from the rear ends in the cutlass's with 3.8 i believe there in the 2.5X range mine came with a 3.8 and has a salt flat gear :blam: i believe its a 2.56 gear

in 1980, according to my manual, the Cutlass had 2.14, 2.29, 2.41, 2.56, 2.73, 2.93, 3.08, 3.23, and 3.42 gears available.

That might be different in other years though and also changed depending on what transmission.

True. Most of the 3spd transmissions would come with the 2.14-2.41 gear sets however the lowest (numerically) gear set behind a 4spd would have been the 2.56.

My monte has a lame 2:29-2:32 rear gear. Its a one wheel peel with no go get up and I put the 400 in for that purpose. Thanks for the help but I have to find a new gear soon lol.

I had a 2.29 Posi in an 84 Calais Diesel, car had a TH200c.
Should have kept that rear... car was rotten to the core and had mice living in it. I kept the 350DX and a few other Sand Gray parts that didn't stink like mice piss.

Yea a 2.29 is great for highway driving with the Turbo 400. But the car isnt exactly a daily driver so im not worried about the mileage.
