Well, this morning I decided to take a trip to the wrecking yard to get my mind off a few things. I Found out last night that a very close friend of mine passed away from cancer, and just needed time to my self with the cars.

So as started walking to the Gm section, and I came across a 72 cutlass. At first I didn't think nothing of it, but then I started looking closely and in it was a Rocket 350!!!!! At first I couldn't believe it, but then started thinking how the hell am I going to get it home. So then I started walking and came across a 71 laSabre with a 350. Then I came across a 79 regal and with it was a Alum coresupport but it was a bit bend. So now, I’m still trying to figure out how am I going to get the rocket home lol…….

My parents had that identical year and color LeSabre when I was a kid.

How can i tell if it's an original Rocket, and not a replacement. The wrecking yard is asking 350, is it worth it? Any advice is greatfull guys....

It should have some casting # in the front between the manifold and water pump. I believe it should be 409147 I'm not sure though.

Sorry to hear about your buddy Lue. 🙁
My cars have been pretty therapeutic for me over the years as well.

I wouldn't bother with the Olds 350. If you had a Cutlass, it'd be another story.
You don't need to shell out your cash to sit on something you may not be able to sell right away.
Let somebody else with an Olds go get it.

Too bad about that aluminum core support...

oh ok dan, thanx for the help. but is it worth $350 to get it?

I was going to say something about that, but forgot. No I would not pay that much for it. You have no idea what condition it is in and if it was even running. People have taken all kinds of parts off, allowing possible water to get into the engine. If you were able to see it run and verify that it is in good shape internally, then yes, that would be a good price. If it still turns over and is not seized, I would pay no more than $200.
