does anyone know of anyone running these covers? are they really worth it? my rear is stock 10 bolt 7.5 with 3.42 with locker unit. with a street mostly driven rear with a track outing with slicks once a year on stock axles hold up with about 400 hp peak. i thought of maybe getting some moser axles to beef up my diff but debating whether i have to have the axles or not. then looking for public opinion on the diff cover too.

oh yea, i have a 2k stall with a 700r4.

on another note. anyone use the b&m govenor recall kits? you know, to change the shift points higher.

i have one in my camaro, not summit brand but they are all basically the same.
the way i see it is if your putting any power to these rear ends its cheap insurance, plus mine has a drain plug, which is handy

would those tension bolts for either of the bearings leak through the cover?

i havent had a leak problem from there, or anywhere for that matter

Here's a picture of mine,
I have a 8.5 with 3.42 gears, all beefed up
This cover doesn't leak, holds well, and looks awesome

They are worth the money. If you had a big block or a 400+ci small block ie torque and put slicks to her and spent more time at the track I would say don't put your money in the 7.5. Invest in an 8.5. But as is especially if you don't have a posi yet you can get hardened 28 spline axels (instead of your 26) for reasonable money and the girdle and she becomes strong enough for goals. It will also soak up less power and gas than a larger rear fwiw.

Also I would get one from the source www.taperformance.com just click rear end girdles. Its a smaller private company owned by a hot rodder like us. Mike is a stand up guy who will stand behind the product better than Summit or Jegs. IMO. Can you get away without axels or a girdle? Possibly for a while but they are both weak. Often guys break them get another add a support cover and then tear up an axel.

For the axle tube braces the axles have to be pulled so the mounts can be welded to the axle tubes. So unless you plan to do the extra work, don't get them.

i already bought a detroit tru trac locker and had it tossed in 2 years ago. i believe it was a 26 spline for i am still on stock axles. are the 28 spline completely superior to the 26 to warrant getting another diff or maybe sending it in to maybe get switched out or modded at the factory? seems like more headaches then what it may be worth.

i found what these tube braces look like and i don't really see where a guy needs to pull the axles just to weld to the tube. anyhow, would it be bad for a guy to weld the outside of the tubes to the center section to aid it for strength and stop the oil from wepping out?

The brackets weld on to the outer ends of the tubes. So your axle seals will be shot after welding. (that's what I was told)
