do i HAVE to have one to run a full duel system under the car how much ground clearance will i be losing?

in stead of buying one how in depth would it be to notch the stock cross-member? would it still be viable as a rigid structural peice? i just plane on maybe running 2.25 i dont think i will need a 2.50 system so keep that in mind.

actually should i run a 2.50?thats what i run on the mustang but it pushes a bit more air......help

You can have the original notched. It also needs to be reinforced where it is notched to avoid any twisting problems, or any other structural damage. I have heard of 3" pipes on these cars, so there is room under there. I think I will go with a 2 1/2"

I'm running full 3" duel exhaust with cats on my 85 Cutlass with stock crossmember. (I'll try to take pics soon). One cat sits a little lower than the other, but no issues with clearance whatsoever. Make sure you have a good shop that knows how to deal with these things.

I did recently by an aftermarker duel-hump crossmember form Jegs, haven't installed it yet.

when you say reinforced will re boxing it work? no further reinforcing needed?

the shop i use is very good they ran my first setup on the mustang maybe i will just drop the cross member this weekend and notch it next week again this isnt a power application just want to run duels since the stock system has holes in it this is a show/cruiser car

*edit* im not going to run cats

are the stock dimensions near 2x3? what would be the most i should remove?

ok i have decided to go to the pull a part down the road and pull a cross member which cars would have the same cross member? here is the list of classic suprems

OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS SUPREME 1987
OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS SUPREME 1986
OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS SUPREME 1986
OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS SUPREME 1985
OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS SUPREME 1984
OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS SUPREME 1983

which other models would have something i could use?

and does anyone need me to pick anything up? you pay shiping ill get if its relativly inexpensive or if you need something bigger you can pay lol

Any gbody could have a crossmember that would work. Many have been modified for dual exhaust. That would be all Malibu, Monte Carlo, ElCamino and the GMC Caballero, Cutlass, Grand Prix, Regal, LeMans. Look for either an aftermarket or notched crossmember.

so it should be easy to find one already modified ? maybe i will get lucky they only charge 25 bucks for a "large" cross member hmm we will see
