Hi. I'm not an exhaust guy but I've searched a ton. Looking fo an affordable decent sounding muffler. Dynomax seem to be often recommended. I have a stock 86 cutlass 2 door with a 307. Want a muffler that's quiet in the car with a little tone. The Dynomax 17747 seems to be what I'm looking for. 2.25 in and out but every site says it doesnt fit. Its a 20 inch body. I will have a shop do install from cat back but it's cheaper if I buy the muffler. I'm not at all knowledgeable when it comes to mufflers. My question is will it work or better can a muffler shop make it work. Its affordable for me and seems to be exactly what I'm after. Thanks in advance

I used those mufflers on my 87 442 with MBS 2.25 tail pipes. made my own front pipes. It's tight but it can be done. I turned the lower control arm bolts around to get a bit more room there. They sound good. On the quiet side. I switched to the same muffler except in 2.5, same tail pipes, and 2.5 front pipes. I was surprised how much louder it was. Both systems had an H pipe.

Maybe someone can recommend a better option with similar tone that would fit better? Dont want duals. Just nothing crazy loud with minimal interior noise. If stock is best option the that's ok but a little sound would be nice. It's to darn quiet. I'm an old dude but like a little sound.

those are on the quieter side, especially with a cat still in play.that muffler is long for these cars, try getting a short one.it'll make the install for the exhaust shop easier.as far as something similar steer clear of any chambered/fully welded style muffler, they're louder and some are proded to droning at highway speeds.most turbo mufflers are the perforated tube with packing design that you're looking for.

The stock mufflers are 19" so a 20" unit should not be a problem. I use Dynomax exclusively and they are nice sounding mufflers. Not too loud, or annoying.

Engine masters proved that a turbo muffler is the worst thing to put on your car. It lowers power.

that's true, however the last thing I'm going to do is steer someone that clearly wants a quiet performance muffler (on their totally stock vehicle btw)towards a muffler that isn't what they want nor is it going to make a measurable amount of difference along with the noise that they don't want in the first place.

So if you are keeping single exhaust is the muffler behind the rear end?

I have a 1995 Firebird Formula. I really hated the obnoxious Flowmaster that was on it. I replaced the single pipe cat back muffler with a single Dynomax and it sounds great. Grumpy, throaty, but not raspy or irritating.
