I'm sure there's a writeup on here of the full ECM delete. Mine was just "ripped out" so it runs really rich in limp mode. I have heard that simply replacing the carb, intake and distributor can be the full extent of the delete. Good luck to you
Yes, if you ditch the carb and distributor you can also ditch the ECM. The torque converter clutch will not lockt you can buy a kit to get it to work if you want. in my experience the tcc in the earlier models was more trouble than it was worth, with a supposed gain of 1 mile per gallon the sure did cause a lot of driveability issues, especially with the taller rear end ratios. I remember working on a Monte that would turn around 1200 rpms at 55 mph, the owner was an older lady who only drove about 40, so every time it hiccuped she felt it, and brought it to the shop.
Yes! Another user on here actually helped me with my 88 Sierra that came factory with throttle body injection and convert it to a carb. I just left the ECM plugged in that way little things like lock up, and dummy lights would still work. Then used an intake, a 4 barrel carb, and an HEI just like you said its been my daily driver for a year now. And what plugs from the ECM harness i didn't use i just taped up just in case i ever wanted to put it back. Should be much easier for you than me.
