They claim if you add this kit to a stock 69-68 350 olds engine it should produce 397 HP Without adding different Heads!! Has anyone used this kit and How true are their claims??

I've never seen an Edelbrock TOP-END kit that didn't come with heads. What did the kit come with? Very hard to believe 397hp without heads or head work.

kit has timing chain cam carb and intake i believe. the stock 69 olds 350 4bbl made 310 hp stock. kit says you must use headers. i believe the numbers. 397 at flywheel isnt that big of a jump.

87hp is quite the jump for pretty much a camshaft. I wouldn't say it is impossible with that stuff but those numbers are damn good for just those parts.

What cam comes with this Edelbrock kit? Whichever one it comes with I can tell you right now it still ain't going to give you what they claim. Who the hell rates their HP by the old gross method anyway? A 68-70 4 barrel 350 will put out about 220ish HP with dual exhaust when rated by todays more realistic standards. Adding a decent street friendly cam ( even an Edelbrock one ) would bump it up to about 250 or so and then maybe up to about 270 with long tube headers.

And I will say that an Edelbrock Performer intake is barely any better than a stocker and an Edelbrock carb ain't going to get you even 1 HP better than a properly tuned Qjet. Edelbrock are great advertisers. They have duped many into buying their silly 'power packages' in the past. You can do better.

If you're trying to supe up a stock 4 barrel 68-70 Olds 350, just get a Cloyes timing chain, an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, a set of properly sized headers, keep the Qjet, and get a cam recomendation from a TRUE Olds engine builder/cam manufacturer. Don't just settle for a cheapo cam when you can get better ones for just a few bucks more. Instant 13 second car ( with the proper gearing ) for cheap.

If youI have 10:25 to 1 compression heads instead of the 9:5 to 1 I thisnk this kit will do well. I have always had great luck with all the edelbrock stuff. I used a little bit more custom stuff in my 455 but for a street cruiser this kit would be great.
