Can anyone tell me if the 78 to 87 Elko front calipers are the D52 type. Looking at upgrading and lightening up the front but can't find much on the GM type caliper in the G bodies....
Or even better, if anyone has done this upgrade (aluminum Calipers) and has a make, company ect with a success story I'd like to hear about it.

Well since D52 is a part number for brake pads, i'm gonna assume(ya I know) that a D52 caliper is one that simply takes that style of pad. If that's the case then no they won't just bolt on. Off the top of my head they were OE on fullsize trucks and I think on fullsize wagons or hd b-bodies.
A lot of the times the calipers on our cars are reffered to as "metric" calipers. There are some out there that bolt-on but use a larger diameter piston for a slight upgrade.
And as far as I know all the above mentioned calipers are cast iron.

I'm looking at my caliper from my 82 Conquista and I don't see a "D52" stamped anywhere.

It won't say *D 52* on the caliper. That is the *almost* universal part number for the replacement brake pads.

As always Tim thanks for the tip. I found a perfect set on Summit and are in my wish list. Hopefully once I get back from Iraq I'll have them in my Garage waiting for me 🙂

Yes it will. If you think of the old adage "Every little bit counts" it just makes sense. Weight is time bottom line. Save 10 lbs. on calipers, 30 Lbs on headers, another 50 lbs on heads, 10 lbs on aluminum water pump.. ect.. it all adds up. There is no excuse to not put the car on a diet unless your pocket book is tight or a light car is not what your after.

well yea didnt think of it like that lol i thought about a fiberglass hood but dont want it to crack
