Has anyone seen/photoed a G-body el Camino with a vinyl top? I have been thinking about it on mine, for several reasons,(I would like to get rid of an aftermarket sunroof, and I like the look, sort of retro/early 70's ) I don't want to do it unless I have a pretty good idea of how it will look.

Dont do it!, i think it will look bad, and u will get water trapped and that case more rust problem in the future,
I think vinyl top are more for Cadillac or Buick, it would not look right on a truck style el camino, i never seen any truck have them, and if the do they must have a lowrider look  , now they put everything  that is my opinion

Now you can't say you haven't seen one 😱
This is EXACTLY the look I want, I just haven't seen it on a g-body elCo. and this car will be a garage kept-sunny day cruiser,so im not really worried about moisture.

WOW.. its funny a few years ago i had a 79 el camino that had a factory vinyl top on it of course i sold the car and missed the oppurtunity to buy it back. and the other day i was a local car show and seen a maroon el camino there with the color matched top.. i think they look cool JMO.

I have seen them on gbody el caminos, the look alright with certain paint jobs, otherwise it's ugly. I've never like them but it's not my car haha! just search around real hard you'll find one.

I just found a pic of a g-body elCo vinyl roof. It appears to be a reverse landau style, front half only. not my thing. I want a full top. I like the look of the old ones, and I will have quite a bit of bodywork on the roof of my car. The hillbilly who bought my car new, put dual spotlights through the A-pillars, a Lund sun visor on it, and an aftermarket sun roof in.Also the 80% quarter panels splice right at the sail panel. So by the time all the holes get closed up, particularly the sunroof, the vinyl top may camouflage that somewhat.

I just bought another 79 and it has the vinyl top...just finished cleaning the top up but don't have any good pics of it yet. I was uncertain at first...but I think it's pretty rare and after cleaning some of it it's starting to grow on me. I'll post up some pics when I get a chance.

they look clean, providing you keep it the same color as the body.and i think the pebble grain looks great! i had an 85 with a full luxury sport monte front clip and side chromes,i wrapped the side chrome in black pebble grain material as well as the top.looked awesome, was painted black.trying to get pics from my cousin who i built this for but he is in mexico.although this is clean do not attempt this if you do not have the conquista trim.as the aftermarket trim with "buttons snaps" on it looks like $#!t.
