Electric AC compressor?

Even though I have no experience with these I was just looking at that product last week. I keep trying to find somebody that makes a complete 12 volt electric self contained trunk mounted AC unit that I can use in my Monte and I would vent it into the cabin through the rear deck area. I just feel my engine compartment is too full to try and squeeze in an AC compressor and hoses plus running a V-belt set up and shifting at 7400 RPM does not help the situation.
I also have no room under my dash to run a standard style venting system.

I was considering something similar for my '35 pickup for many of the same reasons. There's some dead space behind the cab under the bed that would work great for something like this. Would let me keep a more traditional look in the engine bay too. Apparently these electric compressors are common in the EV conversion world.

I haven't used one of these units but did take a quick peek at the one that you listed. I'm thinking that you'll need to beef up your electrical system in order to use one of these setups. The specifications read that the compressor will draw almost 32 amps.

Good advice. In the application I'm considering I'll have amperage to spare. Would certainly need an upgrade for an early G's charging system to keep up.

Could you look into one of these newer "eco friendly" cars like a Toyota and adapt one of their systems? I believe some of them actually have an electric compressor.

Cool thing about that would be if you hooked up a solar panel system to charge the battery you could run the A/C while not running the engine. 🙂
