I can do just about everything on or to a restoration however I know my limitations and don’t mind paying or trading to get the best result. Now that I have the body back on the frame, it’s time to think ahead a little to the wiring.
Typically on a numbers match restoration, it’s as simple as plug and play; possibly some reconditioning to the original harness for appearance. In this case however, my little Frankenstein project IROC wagon has multiple options it didn’t originally come with as well as the harness being upgraded from a five year newer car, i.e. 1983 to 1988.
The good thing is, I’ve purchased all the appropriate GM harnesses for the options I’m adding. For example, I have the harness for the power rear vent windows, power windows and door locks. I have the complete harness (all of them) from a 1988 Monte SS plus an additional three complete harnesses. Wire, connectors and the like, shouldn’t be a problem. I have the corresponding Service Manual and wiring diagrams for the cars.
Trouble is, most times when I think of electrical, my eyes glaze over and I get a splitting headache. I thought I'd throw this out there now, at least a little ahead of the actual time frame I’ll need it. Essentially, I'm looking for an electrically savvy someone to do the wiring on my IROC Wagon project. Essentially, I can’t afford to lose any more brain cells.
I’ve laid all the harness sections out on the driveway a couple times and think I have everything accounted for. Unfortunately I won’t be able to test the work until I get close to the finish. I really don’t want to bury a bunch of wires and have to dig them up again if it can be avoided. I have the means to apply twelve volt power to the harnesses to test and so forth.
I’m in New River Arizona, about an hour North of Phoenix Sky Harbor airport. My shop is well equipped and I’m a pretty good Toby when I need to be. I don’t however stand on my head any more. Don’t mind paying a fair rate to get the stuff done, the more efficient the better. Caveats are it has to be done on Saturday, Sunday or possibly some Fridays depending on the dates.
Price will be negotiated up front, I pay cash and last time I looked, it usually doesn’t bounce. If you know someone in Arizona that might be up to the task, send them my way. May even consider dragging it to a shop if there's street cred to back up their reputation.
