Anyone ever buy an engine from advance auto parts? Thinking about getting a 455, 403 or 350 from there. If i get a th350 trans can i hook that up to my 307 until i get the the 350, 403 or 455? Which ever is the easiest swap for a 86 cutlass is really what im looking for.

thanks

my dad has. As far as I can remember, he had a problem with one while it was under warranty. After pestering CORPORATE for god knows how long, they payed him for his labor(was not the store's fault)

That was just one case though. He has done several others and had no problems.

Huh, I never knew AAP sold Engines. I knew they sold Transmissions, But not Engines. How much is the 455 going for, And is it a complete engine, Or just the motor itself with no accessories(I.E. Distributor, Alternator Etc.)?

I'd probably look elsewhere. By the sounds of it you don't have an engine to use as a core so there is a few hundred dollars more you will have to spend. Dealing with warranty claims is a pain. It will help if you have a shop that deals with advance install it though, sometimes.

Wow. That's kinda messed up. We could only except the same motor for the core. Just like alternators have to be the same one you are buying not one of a totally different car. But if they give you credit for the whatever core you bring in, thats good for you bad for them. They just won't get credit from Recon.

dont do it. i work for aap, when you purchase a motor you have to give a vin, and the motor has to be same as oem or it is sold as is no warranty. also warranty is void if installed by average joe, has to be a credited shop.

you can hook up a 350 transmission to your 307, but it has to have the B.O.P. (Buick,Olds,Pontiac) bolt pattern. and make sure you grab the dipstick and all the other parts to the transmission

I have used 3 engines purchased from chain stores. The question to ask is who is the actual rebuilder. Once you get the name then do some research on the internet on the rebuilder. I would call the rebuilder and ask each one specifics on what they did.

On one I had an issue where after several thousand miles one rod cap came off and put a hold in the block. An ASE mechanic, who is a friend, assisted me with the swap and they asked to talk to him. they did, he gave them his opinion and they shipped another engine out.
