I am purchasing a 3.8 V6 from a 79 Regal and plan on swapping it into a 85 Regal with a 3.8 V6. Would the 79 engine swap easily into the 85 without changing any other parts? Or would I have to change the flywheel? Or transmission Or other parts?

It should bolt in no problem from what I understand. You may need to change the intake as it may have provisions for emissions and computer equipment the older engine would not. They are both even fire engines (older ones are called odd fire because of the firing order) and from what I know, that is the only major change in long blocks made throughout the years.

You should use the block and heads from the 79, and put all the rest of the 85 parts on it. Everything will work just fine.

If you get creative, you could always buy my Buick 350 and drop it in!!

Good luck!

hey you know what, I was looking for a buick 350 but i only took the V6 because it was $100 and I needed it to replace my current V6 which has a crack on the bottom block. How much are you selling the buick 350 for?

Where are you at?

I'd probably let it go complete for a few hundred bucks. For a few bucks more you can take the whole rotten car and scrap what's left. It's currently running/registered and I drive it on Saturdays.

Let me know!
