ok i have a 1982 monte carlo with the stck 267ci v8
and i was looking at a Chevy 350 SS Crate Engine. With 330 horsepower and 360 ft-lbs of torque. If i was to have that much power would i have to change the transmission and rear end? remember that this will be a dayly driver car for a high school kid. And if i have to change thos things what would u reccomend?

That's not enough power to tax the trans and rear end too much, provided you have a TH350 and not a TH200 ( says "METRIC" on the pan). However, you will want to eventually get around to changing the rear axle ratio as the stock one will still make the car a dog.

Well said by 85 cutty. Is it "that much power" grin think bigger. Gbodys only just start to get fun at that power range IF they are geared well. How about at least a crate 383 with good heads some compression and a good cam & gears now you are talking fun, new, reasonable money and good power/torque for a street heavy car. Then again I got spoiled and addicted to big block torque. To the kid who is used to a regular 4 cylinder the 267 has killler torque to move a big heavy car. Its all relative.

I dunno about killer torque relative to a 4 banger. The old 95 Sentra 1.6/auto I used to beat around in would school a 267 G body pretty bad--and it took 12 seconds to hit 60! In fact, that's about what it ran in the 1/8th too. Compare that to a V6 G body with about 10 less hp than the 267, which can take 22 seconds to hit 60. I know, because that is what my car ran time after time when it had the V6 "powering" (and I use the term loosely) the car.
