Hi Cutty owners,
So from what I've noticed, Cutlass Supremes from 87 and 88 have a different front end from the 81-86 models, known as the "Euro Clip". What's the origin of this name, why do they call it a Euro Clip?
Thanks!
-Mike

It's referred to as Euro mostly because of the headlights and grille area (mostly the lights though). Because the lights went to a one-piece, or "European" design as it was called at the time, most started calling them Euro front-end. That term was used loosely across the industry, as anything with that style of headlight were advertised as having "euro headlights".

I'm sure others more informed will comment too.

Just my $.02 but I would say EURO = UGLY?

I was gonna say "this is coming from the guy with the 87 Cutlass" but then I saw pictures of what it looks like and *surprise* it has no front end to it. take it you'll pull one off of an 81-86. Personally, I got my Cutlass by posting a want ad and specifically said NO EURO CLIP. From what I've seen euro clips are more of a lowrider Cutlass with the 13" spokes and hydraulics. At least in the San Francisco Bay Area anyway.

I think they look aerodynamic a bit and a bit smoother. They are nice i think and the Monte ls with the euro clip looks the nicest. Grand Prix's didn't come like that but it would be interesting to see what they would have come up with. My 79 GP had the blunt front end even though i loved that car the front end wasn't as sexy as my 85 front end even though its not euro 😀 I guess we each have our own opinion on what looks good and what doesn't.....

I was being a touch harsh. I used to have a 88 MC with the Euro front end on it. Worst thing I ever did was to sell that car. Solid frame/body & t-tops in a LS.

The cutty is ok actually. I actually do like the bumper & head lamps. It is where they shorten the grill that I do not like.

at one point I was thinking about grafting the headlights into my 82 regal...still might, as it'll add the small touch that's a bit different than the others... we'll just have to see how it goes......
