Not a G, and you're looking at about half the production run.

It's the Buick variant of the Grand Am/Olds Calais. These cars were built on a modified J car (Cavalier, etc.) chassis.

These are the N-body cars. First released for the 1985 model year. FWD with engines ranging from the 2.5 liter Iron Duke Pontiac motor through various 60 degree and 90 degree V6s. During this period GM had the brilliant marketing plan of calling all of their car lines the same name. Olds, for example, had three different car lines called "Cutlass", the G-body Cutlass Supreme, the FWD A-body Cutlass Ciera, and the N-body Cutlass Calais. This was further confusing because in 1984 and earlier, the Cutlass Calais name was used for a RWD G-body.

The Somerset was supposed to be the replacement for the Skylark but the Skylark was a popular nameplate and calling something that's more Skylark than Regal the "Somerset Regal" just confused everyone.

So it died.
