How rowdy is your motor? Does it really need 3" pipe?

Even though you already have a set of 3" mufflers, I personally would go with 2.5" for a 350.

I recommend a X-pipe.

I would also go with 2.5". Also, an x-pipe would be good or an h-pipe. 3 in. is a little too much for an old 350. It all has to do with fluid dynamics and I don't feel like completely explaining something that I don't exactly understand myself lol. Basically, that motor will not be flowing enough air to utilize 3 in. exhaust and the wide diameter pipe will cut down on velocity. The 2.5" will work well and is large enough for further engine upgrades.

ok thanks alot guys.. i got the mufflers for free from a friend brand new ill talk to the shop and see if i can swap them for the 2.5, with the x pipe would it clear the drive shaft? i have about 8-12in of lift on my car and i dont want to hit the drive shaft.. 😀

Yep X-Pipe system with 2.5". Lifted 8-12", Is this in a 4x4 truck??

i recomend the pipes xpipe . you can get the reducer from 3'' off most headers and the xpipe made to fit our cars. i believe you can get the true dual setup less mufflers, and tailpipes as well

3" will be significantly louder, depending on what you want. If your running 40 series it will be fairly loud already. Are they Super 40's? They tend to droan at 1800-2200 RPM's and with 3" exhaust it will be annoyingly loud. I'm speaking from experience. I am currently running that set up on my Elco. Sometimes getting mufflers for free doesn't mean that you should use them. I wish I would have gone with 2.5" & regular 40 Series. Just a thought

well they are the regular 40s, i put 2.5 on it and it sounds great, they were able to adapt to the 3 in muffler with the 2.5 pipes so im happy, the one issue im having though is the shift linkage it wouldnt let us put it into drive, but ive fixed it before dont understand mhy they make them like that..

I just had 3 inch exhaust built from headers all the way back with an X pipe on my 84 Hurst on Saturday with 40 series mufflers and it is not that loud. If interested I can give the phone number of the shop that does it. Red Wing MN 😛
