This coming weekend I'm going to replace my rusty 2" Flowmaster exhaust system with a 2 1/2" set up. I have a Summit X pipe kit and some Pypes Street Pro mufflers. I have access to a hoist, and an exhaust tube bender and most everything else to do the job correctly. I'm looking for suggestions on how to route the tailpipes. I'm not sure if I want to go with pipes out the side or rear exit. :? I think out the side was the stock location. So if anyones done their own exhaust, please give me some suggestions. Pics are a great help too!

I'd go with the exit behind the rear wheels.

This is the set up on my Olds wagon...

X2 I'm a fan of the side exit myself. I think the exit going straight out back looks tacky because you can see the pipe going all the way back there. looks real bad if you out a chrome tip on too. Side exit FTW!

Thanks for posting the info...The pics are a great help! 😀 Look like I'll be going out the sides. I post some pics of the exhaust system when I get done.

I think the rear exit looks good on certain cars, and not so good on others.

I had a rear exit with 3" chrome tips on my El Camino I had back in high school.
The thing about the rear exit is in some cars, you run the risk of smashing the tips pulling into steep driveways and such.

Here's my old Elky...

I know what you mean, man! I had a '61 Chevy pickup the had pipes out the back under the bumper. It had also been lowered. I had to really take it slow on some steep driveways. Had to replace the chrome tips a couple of times!

Well, we got he exhaust system completed today. I wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. We had some trouble with not having enough clearance at the crossmember. I had to do some more cutting with the plasma cutter in order to get the X pipe tucked up high enough. I plan on building a new crossmember anyway. Decided not to bend up a set of tailpipes. Settled for turndowns befror the rear axle. Anyway, I'm pleased with the way it came out! Here's a few vids.

I'll get some pics tomarrow.

Personally im a fan of the no show exhaust. Ive got turndowns before the rear axle on my cutlass as well...It can get pretty annoying inside the car though, sh*t rattles like crazy. Im defintly gonna be extending them before too long.

I was concerned about the noise with the turn downs, but it's not bad at all. these mufflers are actually pretty quiet at cruise, this is around 2500 rpm. Once you start getting up around 4000 they start to get pretty loud.
