First off, I'm working with a 7.5" 10 bolt and want to swap it over to a 3-series posi w/28 spline axles.

A local junkyard just got a 1996 Firebird in and I want to go check it out for some rear end parts.

I'm curious to know if all 90-02 f-bodies came with 28 spline axles or did the V6 cars come with 26 spline? Also, where and what numbers should I be looking for to find out whether or not it's a posi and what gear ratio it has?

I've read that there are S10's with some good rear end parts, which years and what exactly should I look for?

Thanks in advance!

IIRC as long as it has a 26 spline axles then the carrier and gears should work.. If it has 28 spline axle they would still work if you pick up 28 spline g body axles.. i was going to swap in a Zexel Torsen LSD out of a 98+ LS1 powered Camaro SS, and 28 spline GN axles and a aluminum girdle on my old 7.625 Monte SS rear, But i came across a 8.5 out of a GN instead.

So the gears and carrier will work as long as you have the corresponding "g-body" axels, but the "S10" axels will "not" fit... correct?

yes sir! 26 spline carrier you can use your original axles or 28 spline carrier then some GN axles would work, What are you planning on doing? I am currently selling my 28 spline zexel torsen LSD with 3.42:1 ring and pinion gears, and have a set of 28 spline GN axles along with my SS 7.625 rearend. PM me if interested though shipping would be $$ on the rear or parts.
