Hello all, I'm wondering about an odd swap. My '82 Gutlass has a snapped shifter cable, and I went to a local u-pull-it place where they had two cars that interest me; one '82 Camaro, V6 3-speed. and a Firebird right next to it, also a V6-3-speed car. Both cars have cables in them. However, I really like the Pontiac shifter, something about it has a really nice feel. Can a Firebird shifter be swapped into a G-Body and work properly? If not, could I use the cable out of one of the cars to replace my snapped cable? There's not a single A/G-body car in the entire yard, so these F-Bodys are the closest thing there. Any help is great, thanks

I would cross reference the part #'s (on RockAuto) for the F-body cable and the one that your car takes.
I'm sure the F-body shifter would work, but would most likely mount differently than the G-body shifter. It might be worth picking up if it's cheap.

it will not fit without a lot of modification if you are trying to fit shifter into stock console for gbody...been there

Maybe the handles will exchange on the stick? IIRC, there is a 'u-shaped' clip inserted from the side that you can pry out with a fine-blade screwdriver. If the boneyard will let it go cheap, bring it home and take it apart to find out...

Thanks for the information everyone. I was thinking that I might end up just taking the knob and button if nothing else. After researching the part #'s, I'm fairly certain the Camaro/Firebird cable won't work either. Oh well, the cable is pretty low on my list anyway
