I wonder if this is possible?? To install a exhaust flame thrower kit on a completly stock 87 307 olds. I know the 307's have computers but would installing one work and of it did would it cause engine codes?

It's a really bad idea based on the air/fuel ratio of a 307 stock which is the bare minimum to support pushing a flame thrower kit and would most likely result in the engine stalling when the kit is activated... I'm pretty sure the 2 worn 307's I have wouldn't be able to push a flame thrower kit except standing still and that's obviously no fun... It would be a lot faster to just set a pile of money on fire than to pursue this idea. Just my 2 cents. lol

😀 What if I put it in neutral and activated the kit?

Then what if I installed it in a olds 350 with a 10:1 comp and a w30 cam??? Im just throwing ideas out there. No serious considerations. But I do belive your right about the 307 being able to stall out but hey what ever the chicks are into... 8)

You are correct you would have to neutra drop the 307 to push the flame thrower kit. It would be really difficult to nail down the intermittent problem of keeping it going consistently. The 350 put out more top end power and delivers more fuel so it would run the kit much better than the 307 - with or without building it up much.

You could be really unsafe and put some spark plugs in the exhaust wired up to a switch, I've heard of people doing that in the past

Some guys would say I'm 'wrong' at this point; you can put a higher stall. But that's why it's a bad idea to even get vested into this idea. Do you really want to buy a higher stall for a 307 and go through installing that and doing extra stuff turning a few hundred dollar job into hundreds of dollars project? Better to wait til you have an engine that can back up it's claims. A flamethrower on a 307 is 'do-able' but stalling out in neutral with a cloud of smoke and having to restart the car several times ruins the 'show' you are putting on... and isn't the show really the whole point? + If your Cutlass are like mine it doesn't have 'roll-over start'. I have to go back to Park to start the car w/ 307. How embarrassing would it be in a 'parade' style scenario to stall out?

Yes in deed it would be a huge embarrassment. You would look stupid too. I know a good 350 is more than capable, but a little piggy like the 307 well...meh. A nice kit would only cost $150. I have a nice 350 being built a cam a tweak stronger than a w30. And maybe some 6 or 7 heads. A flame trower kit is definitely a crowd pleaser. I just thought since I have an engine lined up to take place of the 307 why not wash the cylinders with extra fuel.
