I purchased a basket case out here in colorado. A 1979.

So I am trying to figure out what is missing and what I can change.

What brings me to posting this is I made the mistake of calling a place called Jerry's Emissions in Lakewood.

First he was a complete A** on the phone.

Now here is where my problem lies. Inbooks and on line I find 3 emissions standards.

Low-Altitude
High-Altitude
Califonia

In the case of my car, it is missing all the emissions stickers.

But when looking at the manifolds I see no provision for AIR Pump system.

So. For those 78/79 guys that live here in Colorado have you passed the inspection here in the last 1-2 years?

Did you do so without the AIR system?

Which location did you use, because if my car broke down "Jerry" will not ever have any of my business?

Oh.. Will it pass with headers as long as the EGR and single cat is in place?

Hey, I am from Denver but have moved out to WA. Anyways I have a 79 camino and the only emissions items were the charcoal can, egr, and lots of vacuum routing. I replaced the manifolds with headers and kept the cat. If there's no AIR provisions (which there shouldn't have been) then you should be fine. As far as a repair shop I recommend Rocco's Automotive in englewood and I used the testing station in Lakewood off of federal and ...Sheridan I think it was coming off of 285hampton. It's been a couple years but on a side note, shouldn't you be exempt now, your vehicle is over 30???

Thanks.

Actually got a call back from the state of Colorado.

My car did not have the AIR system.

I have to go to a special office in Aurora. He will inspect and give me a 2365 form to take to the emissions location.

he also told me I can run headers, with dual cats.

Cool, I thought you didn't have the air system. Also you only need dual cats if you are going to run dual pipes, if you keep the standard y pipe into the single cat that is sufficient.

If your car came without AIR it should be ok to test it as is, as for the 2365 form it's only needed if a engine change was performed with a engine that didn't come with the car. I just got that form when I did my LS1 swap.I ran my original 305 with hooker headers with AIR and dual cats with no issues... so you should be ok running regular headers and cats.. Smog exemption is for 1973 and older vehicles once their initial smog AND they get collector plates... the 25 and older rule was phased out in 2009.. :? you can also take your 79 to local certified smog testing station vs the AirCare stations most 81+ vehicles are required to go to.. I would make sure it runs good and do a good tune up then get it tested. Where are you located?
