My car had a very slight "lean stumble" at idle that just really bothered me. I rebuilt the carb myself, but the condition continued and no amount of tuning would fix the problem. I sent the carb off to Custom Rebuilt Carburetors in Middlesex, NJ for a street rebuild. The carb came back looking like new and the car has never run better. If anyone needs a carb rebuild, contact Philip at CRC.

I know him. He's 20 minutes from me. He did the 1 bbl carb on my dad's 82 fairmont 200 I6. Bolted on and it was PERFECT! Only adjustment needed was cold/high idle.

Same here. I bolted it on and fired it up and the adjustments were perfect. I just fined tuned the idle at that was it. Even the mixture control solenoid dwell was dead on. Car runs like brand new. Forgot to mention that the turn around was only a couple of days.

What does he do that can't be done at home? Rebush?

Assuming you have the correct tools, you could probably do it at home. Mine needed the choke housing replaced due to the previous owner breaking off one of the three ears. I rebuilt mine before sending it off using tools I made from the drawings in the service manual. I fudged the parts of the rebuild where the portractor type tools were needed. The carb still gave me an idle stumble and I think it was because of a loose throttle shaft. When the carb came back, I noticed the shafts were nice and tight after being rebushed.. Philip also re-dyes the parts so they look brand new.

Looks awesome! I have one I need redone for my 87 442, how much does he charge?

I think it was $245, but I can't remember for sure. I was real tempted to just buy a rebuilt unit, but I wanted to keep the numbers matching on this car. It was kind of a crap shoot because I was not sure a rebuild would even help the car idle better. I don't think it takes much to get the metering off on these CCC carbs. The correct tools and gauges to get these carbs back to spec are pretty expensive and hard to find.
