Ford 9 inch swap help?

i have an 83 cutlass that id like to put a ford 9 inch in, what to i have to do to have it fit my car, do i have to shorten it?

Bottom line unless you can find one the correct width (or get a smokin deal on cutting the housing and axles) AND have a welder and skills to use it plus a place to work, you really are better off with something like a quick performance housing. If you already have a 9” that is too wide use, get the aftermarket housing and axles and transfer the brakes and 3rd member.

Based on your questions from this topic http://gbodyforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=53126 and the fact that you 17 and only working part time at $9 hr I would say focus on building an engine first and after that when you have continued to learn more you can decide then what actual upgrades your rearend will need.
A Ford 9" is most likely overkill for your intensions for your car and a upgraded 7.5 will hold up to plenty of power without slicks.
 
thanks, but its just a question i dont have plans for it yet, but my friend has one that hed give me a good deal on so i was just wondering
