Okay I have an 84 cutlass. I want to replace the front speakers, I'm just real afraid of breaking the grills. What is the most cautious way to remove the grills

i haven't had any issues using two screwdrivers to slowly lift it and do it at the corners because thats where the tabs are

I haven't tried, but can you make a hook out of a paperclip or something to grab them? I agree about cracking the dash. Very hard to get them out with screwdrivers without doing that.

i haven't had any of those issues but i would imagine thats true that the dash would be hurt before the speaker grill

All 4 corners? or just the 2 inside ones?

there are 3 tabs. i believe the only corner that doesn't is the inner one towards the backof the car but dont quote me on that

Honestly, you are more likely to crack the dashboard in the area of the grills than breaking the grills.

You mean like this ...

Here's where the clips are located...

The safest way is to pull the glove box door off on the pass side and try to squeeze the clips and push up at the same time. Ive craked 2 of my dashes trying the screwdriver method. The drivers side is way harder. Gotta take out the cluster and all the trim and the plastic guage backing piece. It takes way longer but you dont crack dashes doing it that way.

Or, you could use a small piece of wood or something thin but sturdy to lay on the dash so when you gently pry on the speaker cover it spreads the pressure out evenly.
