One of my mailbu's original front speakers is finally dying. It's making that annoying blown speaker noise whenever a louder bass note comes up.

So I've been looking around at replacement 3.5" speakers. These 2 below seem to be decent cheaper models that will fit with no problems.

They have good reviews. My one concern with the Pioneer is that the tweeter might be raised enough to hit the speaker grill. Hard to tell in the pic. It does say "Custom-Fit for GM, Ford and Volkswagen Vehicles" in the description though... but this is a 1981 car. And hopefully the magnets aren't too wide.

I just ordered all new speakers from memphis. They make speakers that not only fit the front but also for the rear. I am having them installed in a couple of weeks. Memphis Audio makes good quality stuff for a fair price.

I just installed the kenwood's, They are okay. Nothing amazing but better quality than factory ones I was replacing. No tweeter so fit no problem

I used Infinity Kappa 3.5s. They are very clean !!!! Also added some kick panels with 5.25 Kappas

i just used a nice 3.5" horn tweeter in my dash, and the back deck got two 6x9 3ways and two 6x8 two ways, the trunk got two 12" subs n a 15" sub... going to add some 5.25" in the kick panels or doors, havent decided which yet...

I used Pioneer component speakers and put the tweeters where the 3.5" speakers were and made upper door panels to fit the 6.5 speakers and then I put 6 x 9 three ways in the back, that's about all the stereo I need for my Monte since the engine puts out all the bass I will ever need.

Update: I installed the Kenwoods. Working fine. Might put in some better rear speakers eventually. The current ones look like mid 90s k-mart model. They're mounted to the interior molding just behind in wheel wells.
