I am having some issues and wonder if anyone else has run into this before i have Wilwoods 14" front brake kit which requires some mods to the front factory spindles like trimming the ears off and drilling/tapping the backing plate holes to allow the caliper mount to bolt on which all as easy to do and i sent the spindles off to powder coating. upon assm. of the brake brackets i cleaned the holes out test fitting everything hand tight the upper bolts on both sides seized up coming out i could feel it one i got out with minor damage the other had to be drilled so i upsized them to 7/16 from 3/8" bolts but the one side has a bit of play due to the drilling so i dont know if it will torque down right! Are these spindles prone to that being they are cast they dont even feel right when tapping them?

I had my spindles drilled and tapped to a 7/16" thread and didn't notice anything abnormal but I guess anything is possible.

Did you use a tap to clean out the powdercoat? Sounds exactly like what happens when that crap gets into the holes

The shop i deal with plugs all the treaded holes but i did clean the holes also! The bolts screwed in very nice and i just snugged them then coming out was the issue the lower open holes were fine just the top holes that dont go all the way though! Got me a bit leary right now and i dont think i would feel good about taking that one hole to 1/2" where it is might weaken the spindle!

I had to take it out to 1/2"-20 on the one side just could not get a good thread with the 7/16"x20 hopefully it will be ok i did drill it a bit deeper and plan to red loctite it once i have the brakes fitted!
