Hi I am new here and have a question about my fuel gauge in my 1988 olds cutlass 2dr. I have owned several old cutlass cars but this is my first with the standard inst. cluster with idiot lights. The fuel gauge seems to wander alot and seldom reads the same especially while coming to a stop.

Any hints to repair?

I also was wandering about what I can expect for fuel mileage with the olds 307. I converted it back to a regular carb and distributor as the computer was toast when I purchased the car. It is hard on fuel. I have the timing set at 20 deg btc at 1100 and vacuum advance is connected to manifold vac. I connected my volt metre to o2 sensor and it reads about .90 cruising at 50km/hr. This seems high to me? I haven't tried it on the highway yet. 2.57 gears? I believe O\D transmission 2004r

Several pics of my oldsmobiles to show but have no clue how to go about setting this up? I own Four at the moment. I drag race one with a 350LT1 best et. 12.47 1/4 mile. 105mph.

Thank you I hope to chat with you

The fuel gauges on these cars always seem to wander around alot when going around turns and stopping/accelerating. I dont think they have any baffles in the tank which lets the fuel just slosh around.

The gas mileage in these cars always seem to be around 15 to 20+ mpg. Putting a non computer carb and distributor may hurt your gas mileage. To get an accurate way to figure out fuel mileage, fill up your tank and drive it for a while till the level is down to almost empty. Record the miles/ kilometers you have driven on that tank. Fill up the tank and divide the distance you have put on that tank of gas by the amount of fuel you put back in the tank. You have to fill the tank up tho do this right.

How bad does it wander? A little is normal on these cars, at least on every one i have seen. Some are worse than others.
