The original equip fuel pump went out yesterday on my 83 H/O.. Looking thru the GM parts' manual,,all I can find is p/n's for vin Y 307s GM 6471743 ( ACDelco 41567 ). I can find the p/n for 85-87 vin 9's GM 6472172 ( ACDelco 42218 ) Anyone know if either of these is correct for an 83 vin 9 ? My car is all original, and I want to keep it that way,,so i'd like to get the OE pump for it...I actually have the 42218 ,but trying to make sure it is right for this car

What's the difference between them?

Don't know.. I now have both and side by side there is no physical difference.. But , from 88hurstolds and Cruzn 66 ( classicoldsmobile.com) advice, i am installing the 42218

I've never heard of a separate fuel pump for the VIN 9 engines as opposed to a VIN Y version. I'm thinking the aftermarket considers them all the same if I remember right.

Hopefully someone explains what the differences actually were according to GM. In the older cars sometimes you had 5/16" line fittings for lower performance engines and 3/8" fittings for higher performance engines. The pump-to-carburetor line is 3/8" on my 1986 VIN Y, so maybe the inlet size could be different somehow? I'm not seeing where a 20+ MPG 180 horsepower, low compression smog engine would need different fuel flow than it's 140 horsepower brother.
