Fuel pump upgrade

L98 *i think* swap done years ago by my grandfather.

Fuel pump went out.

Bought a holly sniper 12-335 (without really knowing what I was doing) 350lph. Huge overkill as I'm pretty sure I'll never put that much HP into it.

Will the original FPR under the (intake manifold) hold up to the increased fuel pump performance?

Second question:
Does anyone know what OEM efi fuel pumps will fit the OEM el camino gas tank or am I safe to go forward with the holly sniper 350?

Third question:
Before I install this Mr. Gasket fuel pump harness (30a relay, 20a fuse) does anyone know why and how this pump could have functioned for so long without a relay? There is only 2 wires running to the original fuel pump. One goes to guage and one powers the pump i imagine. It is necessary for me to run new wires with relay, or can I cut the connector, ground the additional black wires and Reconnect the existing two wires to the new holley pump?

Bare with me as i am fairly new to this. Corrections and advice welcome!

Welcome aboard, you came to the right place and we're glad to have you. I'd guess that the pump lived through voltage spikes and variations until it couldn't, and it was a good pump. As for your questions, I believe you'll find that all of these topics have been discussed pretty thoroughly and some pictures are even available if you search for them here. The search bar is towards the top of the screen, and if you don't find what you seek repeat your search on Google or Bing, and simply add GBodyForum to the end. I'm not necessarily an expert on things but they've made appearances and prefer to not repeat themselves. Happy hunting!

well, I'm assuming you have a v8 since you mention it but I can tell you that none of the v8 engine offerings from 78-87 ever came with EFI, only the v6. therefore there is no OEM EFI gas tank fuel pump. however, there are a couple of options, such as swapping the gas tank. iirc, it involves taking it from a station wagon but you'll need to look it up here. otherwise you're stuck with adding it to the fuel line.
can you give us a better description of your induction system? (distributor, carb, intake, etc)

That pump should work just fine. And it will work fine with the factory TPI fuel pressure regulator. It’s definitely not too large for your setup unless someone has changed the return line to an insanely small line.

The only issue that you might have is when the tank is very low and you corner hard or during heavy accel /decel events because I do not believe that tank is baffled. I ran an in tank pump for a bit with a TPI in a factory unbaffled tank. I later swapped to a baffled tank and welded sumps into all of my builds.
