I'm ddrpping a sumped gas tank with a factory replacement fuel sending unit. The sending unit only electical connection is the stud connection for the fuel gauge. I was told by a buddy that since the unit twist locks into the tank and is touching the tank it self and the straps holding the tank are all metal that it grounds it's self. Has any who's installed a sump ran across this or is this true. All feed back is appreciated thanks

sounds correct. just make sure the mounting surfaces are nice and clean.

Factory sending unit? Then no there would be another wire going to ground on the frame or body. Can't remember off hand how the other wire is attached but you will need it. Stock set up has two wires.

edit- Seems like the other wire attached with a spade style connection.

Well just incase it's not the same between gbody's i've got a 86 442. The factory harness is gone and I have the entire car wired with painless. And the sending unit is the approriate one from rockauto.com. I don't have the actual factory s/u anymore for comparison but looking at old pics it looks like it was connected at the place where it twisted down on the tank. Then again that could be the positive side for the pump. IDK But my problem still is what to secure it in with. Pics of the old tank pics are on cardomain ride page #3109459.

Ok, take a look at this image. The wire that is attached with spade terminal and has a ring terminal on the other end goes to ground. Use a bolt to bolt it to a spot on the body or frame. The wire coming from your guage will attach to the threaded stud on top of the sending unit. Hope this helps.
