I bought a new fuel tank and straps. Is there anything that goes between the tank and the straps? I remember years ago my 71 elco had rubber strips. Do g bodies?

If im not mistaken there isnt anything but i do believe that there are rubber straps that you can buy that will prevent rubbing an squeaking... im 50/50 on it though

There are two rubber straps that wrap around the tank with velcro at each end to hold them in place on the tank until you get it bolted in.

Rubber straps came on 84-87 Buick turbos with fuel injection, supposedly to stifle vibration from the in-tank electric pump. But you can use them on other G-bodies. They can be found in the Buick section at GBodyParts or KirbanPeformance. Can't say if they'd work on an El Camino tank though. The shape is different, but the capacity is about the same, isn't it?

I found some rubber sheet at the landfill from someone repairing a rubber membrane roof. I glued the strips to the tank straps with weatherstrip cement.
